The Research environment typically involves small sizes, hands-on operation and single melts. Retech's VAR-R design is a value-engineered arrangement providing a lower net investment and a reduced cost of ownership appropriate for research and development melting. The VAR-R produces quality ingots using the same style of ram drive and power supply as found in the larger production VAR-T and VAR-S models.
The furnace head assembly, melt station and vacuum system are base-mounted. The melt station is rail-mounted to slide out from beneath the furnace head and allow loading of electrodes and unloading of ingots. Options include X-Y positioning, shear-beam load cell type weigh systems and certain other automations found in full-scale production VAR furnaces.
